Vsaka moja pipa se začne kot ideja — misel o obliki, materialu in občutku v roki. Tokratna zgodba se začne z blokom močvirskega hrasta, lesa, ki je stoletja počival v vodi in skozi čas pridobil svojo značilno temno barvo ter izjemno strukturo.

Navdih in začetek

Že dolgo sem si želel pipo iz lesa morta — močvirskega hrasta. Predhodno izvrtan blok, osnovno oblikovan v ravne ploskve skupaj z akrilnim ustnikom, sem si nato oblikoval po želji. Na spletni strani Pfeifenecke so mi z možnostjo nakupa le tega ravno to omogočili. Pri izdelavi sem se odločil za kvadratno obliko, ki poudari karakter lesa, in v istem duhu oblikoval tudi ustnik. Iz koščka lesa, ki je ostal, sem oblikoval še tlačilko v enakem stilu, da komplet deluje kot celota.

Izbor materiala

Močvirski hrast ni le estetsko zanimiv, temveč tudi izziv za obdelavo. Njegova gostota in nepredvidljiva tekstura zahtevata potrpežljivost ter natančnost. Akrilni ustnik je bil izbran zaradi svoje stabilnosti in elegantnega kontrasta — nežni sivi tokovi v materialu dopolnjujejo globino temnega lesa.

Oblikovanje in izdelava

Proces se začne z grobim oblikovanjem — prilagajanje ploskev, natančno delo na prehodih in usklajevanje proporcev. Kvadratna zasnova daje pipi neobičajen, skoraj arhitekturni značaj, hkrati pa omogoča, da pride tekstura lesa do izraza.

Sledilo je dolgotrajno brušenje, kjer se površina z letnicami počasi razkrije. Vsak prehod z bolj finim brusnim papirjem razkrije več podrobnosti, dokler se ne pokaže značilna struktura močvirskega hrasta. Nekaj ploskev sem želel ohraniti in jih poudariti, ostale pa z rustificiranjem postaviti v ozadje in s tem dodati poseben občutek, ko imaš pipo v roki.

Zaključna obdelava

Površina je zaščitena in poudarjena z večslojinim premazom, kar poudari globino barve ter zagotovi prijeten občutek na dotik. Ustnik je natančno prilegajoč, pretok zraka pa preverjen za optimalno izkušnjo.

Končni rezultat

Rezultat je pipa, ki združuje tradicijo in sodoben izraz — robustna oblika, bogata tekstura in edinstven značaj materiala. Vsak kos lesa nosi svojo zgodbo, in prav to daje končnemu izdelku dušo.

Žal ta pipa ni na voljo za prodajo, ampak bo ostala v moji zasebni zbirki pip, ki sem si jih izdelal izključno za lastno uporabo. Kljub temu pa z veseljem izdelam podobno pipo za vsakogar, ki bi si želel svoj unikaten kos — prilagojen željam glede oblike, materiala in detajlov.

V klubu piparjev je pipa vzbudila precej zanimanja; njena posebnost in kvadratna zasnova nista ostali neopaženi. Padla je tudi ideja, da bi pri kakšni prihodnji izvedbi zgornji del komore, kamor se natlači tobak še dodatno poudaril s pobrušeno kvadratno obliko, kar odpira vrata novim interpretacijam in še bolj izrazitim, morda celo drznejšim oblikam v prihodnosti.

Vsak projekt je priložnost za raziskovanje — in prav zato verjamem, da bo še nastala kakšna pipa s podobnim značajem, a vedno z novo zgodbo.

From Raw Material to Finished Pipe — The Story of a Square Bog Oak Pipe

Each of my pipes begins as an idea — a quiet reflection on shape, material, and the way it should feel in the hand. This time, the story starts with a block of bog oak, wood that has rested in water for centuries, slowly developing its deep, dark color and remarkable grain.

Inspiration and beginnings
I had long wanted to create a pipe from morta — bog oak. I acquired a pre-drilled block, roughly shaped into flat planes and paired with an acrylic stem, which I then refined according to my own vision. The website Pfeifenecke made it possible to purchase exactly what I needed. I chose a square form to highlight the character of the wood and carried the same design language into the stem. From a leftover piece, I crafted a matching tamper so the set would feel complete and cohesive.

Material selection
Bog oak is not only visually striking but also demanding to work with. Its density and unpredictable grain require patience and precision. The acrylic stem was chosen for its stability and subtle elegance — gentle grey swirls that complement the depth of the dark wood beautifully.

Shaping and craftsmanship
The process begins with rough shaping — refining the planes, carefully working the transitions, and balancing the proportions. The square design gives the pipe a distinctive, almost architectural presence while allowing the grain to take center stage.

This is followed by many hours of sanding, gradually revealing the surface. With each finer grit, more detail emerges until the unique structure of the bog oak comes fully to life. Some planes were intentionally preserved and emphasized, while others were rusticated to recede visually, creating contrast and a pleasing tactile experience in the hand.

Finishing
The surface is protected and enriched with a multi-layer finish that enhances the depth of color and leaves a warm, natural feel. The stem is precisely fitted, and the airflow carefully checked to ensure an optimal smoking experience.

The final piece
The result is a pipe that brings together tradition and a contemporary expression — a strong form, rich texture, and the unmistakable character of the material. Every piece of wood carries its own story, and that is what gives the finished pipe its soul.

This particular pipe is not for sale and will remain part of my personal collection, made exclusively for my own enjoyment. However, I would be delighted to craft a similar pipe for anyone seeking a unique piece — tailored to individual preferences in shape, material, and detail.

Within the Slovenian pipe club, the pipe drew considerable attention; its distinctive presence and square design did not go unnoticed. There was even a suggestion that in a future version, the rim of the chamber — where the tobacco is packed — could be further emphasized with a squared, sanded finish, opening the door to new interpretations and perhaps even bolder designs.

Every project is an opportunity to explore — and I am certain there will be more pipes with a similar spirit, each with its own story to tell.
