Po več mesecih vzgoje, sušenja in staranja je končno prišel čas za enega najlepših delov celotnega projekta – pripravo letošnjih piparskih mešanic.

Iz lastne pridelave tobaka sem pripravil osnovne sorte Virginia, Burley in Kentucky, del lanskega Burleya pa je bil tudi nežno dimljen. Po skrbnem vlaženju, rezanju in tehtanju so nastale različne recepture, vsaka s svojim značajem. Nekaterim mešanicam so bili dodani tudi naravni dodatki, kot so melisa, kamilica, materina dušica, javorjev sirup in domači zeliščni liker.

Skupaj je nastalo devet različnih blendov, ki so bili napolnjeni v steklene kozarčke, označeni z recepturami in datumi ter so pripravljeni na večmesečno zorenje. Dve mešanici sta bili dodatno toplotno obdelani po postopku Cavendish, posebna pozornost pa je bila namenjena tudi izdelavi prvega Pressed Cake 2025, ki bo naslednjih nekaj mesecev zorel pod pritiskom.

Zdaj sledi najtežji del – potrpežljivo čakanje. Čez nekaj mesecev bo napočil čas za prve degustacije in primerjavo posameznih receptur. Takrat bo pokazalo, kako so se različne kombinacije razvile in katera bo postala letošnja favoritinja.

Pridelava lastnega tobaka je dolga pot, ki se začne s semenom in konča šele ob prvi napolnjeni pipi. Prav zato je vsak kozarec več kot le mešanica tobaka – je zapis celotnega letnika in vloženega dela.

Weekend of Tobacco Blending – Mosir Smoking Pipes 2025/26

After months of growing, curing and aging, the time finally came for one of the most rewarding stages of the entire project – creating this year’s pipe tobacco blends.

Using homegrown Virginia, Burley and Kentucky tobaccos, together with a small batch of previously smoked Burley, I prepared several different recipes, each with its own character. Some of the blends were enhanced with natural ingredients such as lemon balm, chamomile, thyme, maple syrup and homemade herbal liqueur.

In total, nine different blends were created, carefully packed into glass jars, labelled and prepared for long-term aging. Two of the blends were additionally processed using a Cavendish-style heat treatment, while the highlight of this year’s project was the creation of the first Pressed Cake 2025, which will spend the coming months aging under pressure.

Now comes the hardest part – waiting patiently. In a few months it will be time to open the first jars, light a pipe and discover how each blend has matured over time.

Growing your own pipe tobacco is a long journey that begins with a tiny seed and ends only with the first bowl in the pipe. Every jar tells the story of an entire season and the work invested in it.
