Idejo sem dobil že kakšni dve leti nazaj, ko sem na spletu prebral različne prispevke o pipah iz koruznih storžev (corncob pipes), nato pa informacije zbral tudi v prispevku na blogu: “Pipe iz koruznih storžev – Corncob pipes” ¹ ter prve tri tudi poskusno izdelal.

Težava se je pojavila pri surovini zanje – oluščenih koruznih storžih, saj nisem potreboval celotnega storža skupaj s koruzo (za prve izdelane sem namreč uporabil – luščil koruzo s storžev), ampak sem moral najti večjega pridelovalca koruze na star način, kateri bi mi bil pripravljen storže podariti oz. bi jih lahko odkupil za minimalno ceno.

Naključje je hotelo, da sem se z mojo boljšo polovico odpravil na Šmartinsko jezero. Ob cesti proti jezeru je v kraju Dobrova pri Celju kmetija Golavšek, kjer pridelujejo večjo količino koruze na star način – le to namreč ličkajo, jo nato sušijo na štantu hleva in v koruznjaku, ko pa pride čas zrnje oluščijo, storže pa uporabjo za kurjavo. Žal je dogovor za prevzem malo večje količine oluščenih storžev v letu 2020 odpadel zaradi epidemije.

Letos mi je končno uspelo prevzeti storže in z zagretostjo sem se lotil izdelave prve večje serije pip za prodajo.

V nadaljevanju je nekaj fotografij njihove izdelave. Nekaj jih je že prodanih oziroma rezerviranih, katere so še na voljo pa si lahko ogledate v spletni Etsy trgovini ² (link na dnu prispevka), kjer so na voljo tudi dodatki zanje.

I got the idea about two years ago when I read various articles online about corncob pipes, and then gathered information in a blog post: “Pipe iz koruznih storžev – Corncob pipes” ¹ and the first three were also experimentally produced.

The problem arose with the raw material for them – corn cobs without corn, as I did not need the whole cone together. (for the first ones I used – I put off corn from the cones). I had to find a bigger corn grower, who could give me cobs or I could buy them for a minimal price.

Coincidentally, I went to Šmartinsko Lake with my better half. Beside the road to the lake there is the Golavšek farm in Dobrova near Celje, where they grow a large amount of corn on the old way – they peel it, then dry it on a barn and when the time comes they put off the grains and use the cobs for firewood. Unfortunately the epidemic in 2020 has blocked me to get a slightly larger amount of cobs.

This year I finally managed to get the cobs and then with enthusiasm I started making the first larger series of corncob pipes for sale.
