“Vsi piparji imajo enake pipe. Pipo, tobak in žveplenke mora pipar vedno pri sebi imeti in na zahtevo drugega piparja vse tri stvari pokazati; ako mu le ena teh stvari manjka, plača 4 krajcarja globe;
127 years ago, on February 27, 1893, in the center of Ljubljana, in the garden salon of the “Pri Malič” Guesthouse, which stood at the place of todays shoping mall Nama in the 19th century, the constituent assembly of the Slovenian Mountaineering Society (SPD), known today as the Alpine association of Slovenia.

The members of the Mountain Pipers were considered weird in Ljubljana and the surrounding area, but they were decisive for the fact that in Slovenia, in addition to the German Alpine Society (Alpenverein Germany), we also got Slovenian Mountaineering Society (SPD) and that the Slovenian word was heard in the Slovenian mountains.
Josip Hauptman, Ivan Korenčan, Henrik Lindtner, Anton Škof, Karl Seunig and Bogumil Kajzelj were full of funny ideas, they were considered wacky people who take pictures with pipes in their hands, meet at a tavern on a hill above Ljubljana, issue a comical newsletter and have exactly the same rules.
“All pipers have the same pipes. The pipe, tobacco and lighters must always have the piper with him and, at the request of the other piper, show all three things; if he lacks these things, he pays fine;
The pipers greet each other with the names of the following hills: Triglav, Mangart, Grintovec, Črna prst, Lušarje, Stol, Golica, Jost, Janče, Katarina, Grmada, Šmarna gora, Krim; If the piper does not greet the other piper with one of these names, he also pays fine, the same applies to the other who was greet. The younger always greet the senior forward.
Two pipers have the right to ask the third piper for the height of one of the hills listed; if the answer is incorrect, he also pays fine.“
Rules of the members of the Mountain pipers
On July 23, 1892, three of them, Josip Hauptman, Anton Škof and Ivan Korenčan, made the historic decision at mountain Stol that they will not stop until the Slovenian Mountaineering Society (SPD) will be established.
It was not easy, but they succeeded and they established a society from which one of the largest and non-governmental, voluntary organization in Slovenia has grown.
