Milijoni kadilcev pipe po vsem svetu bodo 20. februarja praznovali že dvanajsti Mednarodni Dan Kajenja Pipe (International Pipe Smoking Day ali krajše IPSD). V roke bodo vzeli svoje pipe z namenom spodbujanja prijateljstva, dobrote in strpnosti prek vseh meja.

IPSD so prvič obeležili leta 2008, pobudnik je bil Smokers Forums – evropska internetna skupina, ki združuje ljubitelje kadilcev pip. Od takrat naprej ga letno obeležuje tudi mednarodno združenje piparskih klubov (Comite International of Pipe smokers Clubs), katerega člani so iz 32 držav po vsem svetu.

V počastitev dneva številni klubi in prodajalci tobaka po Evropi in Ameriki prirejajo druženja in prireditve ob tradicionalni 21.00 uri, kjer se zberejo njihovi člani in simpatizerji. Poleg tega potekajo tekmovanja v počasnem kanjenju pipe. Tekma poteka tako, da udeleženec prejme samo dve vžigalici, zmagovalec pa je tisti, ki pipo kadi najdlje.

Zanimanje za kajenje pipe je med odraslimi iz leta v leto večje, kar potrjujejo tudi številna združenja in forumi na socialnih omrežjih. V Sloveniji pa od leta 2017 deluje tudi Klub piparjev Slovenije.

Millions of pipe smokers around the world will be celebrating the twelfth annual International Pipe Smoking Day on February 20 (or short IPSD). Pipe smokers everywhere will raise their pipes together to foster friendship, benevolence, and tranquility across all borders.

IPSD was celebrated for the first time in 2008 when it was originated by Smokers Forums, a European Internet group. Since then, it has been supported by the Comite International of Pipe smokers Clubs and its members in 32 countries around the world.

To celebrate the occasion, many pipe clubs and tobacconists across the Europe, United States and elsewhere are staging pipe smoking events at 9:00 p.m. to bring together their members and others interested in pipe smoking.

In addition, events feature slow-smoking competitions. Each contestant is given just two matches and the winner is whoever can keep a pipe going the longest.

Attesting to a resurgence in pipe smoking among younger adults as well as older ones, pipe smoking groups have attracted thousands of members in recent years on social networking sites.
